A planned preventative maintenance (PPM) contract gives facilities teams a clearer way to manage automatic doors, shutters and gates before a failure becomes a trading, access or safety problem. NW Automatic Doors services single sites and multi-site estates across North Wales, keeps clear records for your safety file, and never ties you in for call-outs.

Use the quote route for a considered brief, or call when you want to talk through the site before deciding.

A maintenance plan that fits the estate

Maintenance starts with workload, risk and the evidence you need to keep.

A planned programme should make future decisions easier: understand the assets, schedule around operations and leave a clear record of what was checked and what needs attention.

  1. Survey the assets and priorities

Start with the doors, shutters, gates and barriers in use, the condition they are in and the impact if each one fails.

  2. Set visits around the way the site works

Match servicing frequency and access windows to workload, trading, deliveries, tenants or public footfall.

  3. Keep records and decisions visible

Use clear service notes and early warnings to support safety files, budget decisions and future repair planning.

The expensive part of a failure is what it interrupts

A shutter stuck down can stop opening. A failed entrance can disrupt staff, visitors and deliveries. An access point that cannot secure properly creates a problem long after the engineer has left. Planned maintenance is there to identify wear, settings and safety issues while they can still be handled as scheduled work — rather than as an urgent disruption to the day.

What a planned maintenance visit actually covers

  • Safety checks on sensors, safety edges and controls
  • Adjustment of opening speeds, forces and hold-open times
  • Lubrication and wear checks on tracks and moving parts
  • Early warning on parts likely to fail, before they do
  • Clear written service records for your compliance file
  • Priority response if something does go wrong between visits

Answers

Frequently asked questions

How often should automatic doors be serviced?

Current safety guidance recommends automatic doors are serviced regularly — typically once or twice a year, depending on how busy the door is. High-traffic entrances such as supermarkets, hospitals and schools often need more frequent visits to stay safe, reliable and within guidance. We’ll recommend the right frequency for each door on your site.

Does a maintenance contract tie us in for repairs?

No — and that’s true of most maintenance contracts, not just ours. A maintenance or PPM agreement normally covers the planned servicing only, not repairs or emergency call-outs, so you’re usually free to choose who handles a breakdown and to get a second opinion any time. Ours work exactly that way: never tied in for repairs, no small-print traps.

Can you maintain doors across several sites?

Yes. We look after multi-site and single-site estates across North Wales with one point of contact, a shared servicing schedule and consistent records for every location. For facilities and estates teams juggling a portfolio, that means one number to call and one clear paper trail instead of chasing several local contractors.

Does a maintenance contract really reduce breakdowns?

Yes. Most door failures build up gradually — worn parts, drifting sensor settings, tired springs — and a planned service catches them before they leave you stuck. Preventing a breakdown is far cheaper than an emergency call-out and the lost trading time that comes with a door jammed open or a shutter stuck down.

What brands and types of door can you service?

All of them. We service automatic sliding and swing doors, roller and security shutters, fire shutters, gates and barriers from every major manufacturer. If your equipment was installed by someone else, or the original company has gone, we can take over its maintenance with no fuss.
